Crowns
Restorative procedures are intended to repair any tooth that has been damaged, ensuring that it will gain back its beauty and function after the process. When patients’ issues are broader than only minor cosmetic concerns, our team at Laser Dentistry will encourage them to consider a dental crown as a solution to address their situation.
Dental crowns, also known as dental “caps,” are popular restorations made of porcelain that cover the visible portion of the tooth. This material mimics the color and shape of natural tooth enamel almost perfectly.
Crowns are designed to look beautiful and also to prevent teeth from further damage. These restorations are named after the portion of the tooth that is visible in the smile, known as the crown of the tooth.

When is a dental crown needed?
Dental crowns are a proper solution for several dental issues. Patients may want to have a chat with one of our dentists at Laser Dentistry about dental crowns in the following scenarios:
- When a tooth has been chipped, cracked, or fractured.
- If a tooth has recently undergone root canal therapy.
- When a tooth has severe cosmetic imperfections, and minimally invasive solutions are not enough to deal with them.
- When a tooth is considerably smaller than hose neighboring it.
- If a tooth has extensively suffered from decay.

Apart from the biological problems, crooked teeth can also have a terrible impact on your social life. Do you feel embarrassed when you have to smile in a work meeting or talk to new people? If you are unhappy with your smile, everybody notices it. And you are well aware of this.
You have thought about orthodontic treatment, but you don’t fancy the idea of having a mouthful of metallic brackets and wires for two years. Luckily, at Laser dentistry, we have a solution to your nightmare. We are proud to offer the Invisalign system. This revolutionary straightening method uses effective and discrete clear aligners to get the smile of your dreams.
What should a patient expect from a dental crown procedure?
First, the patient will discuss his or her options with the dentist and determine whether he needs a dental crown or any other treatment. Once both have agreed that a dental crown will be the course of treatment, the dentist begins the preparations. He initially removes the outer tooth enamel from the tooth. He then takes impressions of the tooth that will be sent to a dental laboratory. In most cases, Dr. Clarke is able to take impressions digitally with the 3M TruDef laser scanner, which means no sticky, messy impressions! In the laboratory, those impressions will be used to build a custom-made porcelain dental crown. It will match the rest of the smile in size, shape, and color. Finally, when the restoration is sent back to our office, the patient will return to have their dental crown bonded over the already prepped tooth.
How do I take care of my dental crown?
Patients should care for their crowns in the same way they mind the rest of the smile. The pillars of good dental care are a good brushing and flossing routine and regular visits to the Laser Dentistry clinic for evaluations. Patients with crowns need to take a proactive approach when maintaining their oral health. It is essential to extend any restoration’s lifespan, including bridges, dentures, and veneers.
